Grouping-Work Name Compatibility

Prior to Yate v10.0, the Grouping-Work Name Compatibility setting only had settings for On or Off.

Due to the increase of player applications which implement Apple's encoding of the Grouping and Work Name fields, the setting has been expanded to have the following values:

Off

This setting is unchanged. This is equivalent to the old off setting. Yate will not write the YiTG flag when saving files.

On for MP3 and AIFF (Smart)

This is equivalent to the old On or checked setting. The process is only applied to MP3 and AIFF files. The work Smart implies that Yate can differentiate how the file was written.

On for ID3 (Smart)

The implementation is extended to all file types which support an ID3 tagging scheme. This includes AIF, DFF, DSF, MP3 and WAV. The work Smart implies that Yate can differentiate how the file was written. This setting supports those players which now use the Apple settings for all ID3 based files.

Always On for ID3

Note that the word smart is missing from this item. There is really only one scenario where this setting might be used. If you've tagged files which have a Work Name field but not a Grouping field, using an application which only supports the Apple encodings, Yate will treat the Work Name field as a Grouping. This cannot happen if the file also contains Grouping metadata. With this setting, Yate assumes that the Apple encodings are used. For almost all use cases the On for ID3 (Smart) setting is safer.
