This statement re-encodes the contents of one or more fields, a named variable or a list of fields in a named variable. More information is given in Statement Source/Target Determination regarding the runtime determination of which items to re-encode.
When a named variable is specified, the function is only performed once, regardless of the execution mode.
Text fields may contain any of the escape sequences described in Escape Sequences.
For all functions the source field is not modified if for any reason the function fails.
