The File Browser

The File Browser allows you to traverse the file system and displays a single folder at a time. You can load files into Yate directly from the browser's context menu or by dragging files to the main window's file list panel. Files in the browser can be previewed and opened by their default application.

The type of files displayed in the File Browser, a double-click function and the type of icons displayed, can be configured by the View Options menu item on the context menu.

You can drag files from the File Browser into the main window's file list area to load them. What gets opened depends on the Open Mode. You can also choose Load from the context menu.

You can open files with the system default application for their file type by choosing Open from the context menu.

Files can be moved to the trash from the context menu. If a file cannot be moved to the trash, you can choose to delete it. Note that if a file is trashed or deleted it can still possibly be visible in the main window. In this case, if the file is in the trash it can always be restored. If it is deleted, its metadata is still available.

When a single file is selected you can do a Get Info from the context menu.

You can drag files into the current displayed folder. Note, that files are always copied when dragged in. ie. they are not moved. If the dragged files are dropped onto an item which is a folder, the files will be copied to that folder.

Folders can be pinned so that they can be accessed quickly. The context menu's Pinned Folders menu will display a Pin Current Folder or Unpin Current Folder menu item. If a folder is clicked when displaying the menu, a Pin Folder name or Unpin Folder name menu item will also be displayed. It will also display a list of all currently pinned folders. If possible folders are displayed relative to the home folder (~ form). All pinned folders can be removed by the Clear Menu item.

Note that while the File Browser will detect changes made in the Finder, there is a slight delay before the changes will be displayed.

Display of the File Browser and its position in the main window are configured from the Window menu.
