The following list describes how you can open files:
- Use the File>Open menu item to select aif, aifc, aiff, ape, dff, dsf, flac, mp2, mp3, mp4, m4a, m4v, m4b, m4r, oga, ogg, opus, wav and wv files and folders. You can also open cue, m3u, m3u8, csv, tsv, tab, json, plist, xml, yatearchive, yatepi files and any image file. Image files are opened in the Artwork Viewer. json, plist and xml files are displayed in the Container Viewer.
- Drag any of the above file types and folders from the Finder to the file list display in the main window.
- Select any of the above file types in the Finder and from the context menu Open With item select Yate.
- Drag tracks and image files from the Finder to Yate's dock icon.
- Drag audio, cue, json, m3u, m3u8, xml, image, , yatearchive, yatepi files and folders from Yate's File Browser to the file list display in the main window.
- From the File Browser select one or more tracks and on the context menu select Load. You can set double click to do this via the View context menu item.
- Drag tracks from iTunes, Music or TV to the file list display in the main window.
- Drag images and image files to the file list to add the artwork to the selected tracks.
- Drag a single Yate setting file to the file list area to import its content. What can get imported in this manner is controlled by the Settings - File List - Dragged setting file settings.
- Drag a single Yate setting file to the file list area with the Shift key down to analyze its contents.
- Drag a single plist file to the file list area with the Option key down to open it in the Container Viewer.
- Open recently opened items via the File>Open Recent menu item.
- Use the File>Open Path in Clipboard menu item to open one or more files or folders whose paths are in the system clipboard. When batch processing, Yate produces a log file. Folders are identified in the log as: Folder: /path. If you copy the /path specification to the system clipboard, you can load the folder by selecting the File>Open Path in Clipboard menu item. This may by easier than navigating in the Finder to the desired folder. Any of the file types supported by the File>Open menu can be opened in this manner.
- Use the File>Open Track Playing in menu to open a track currently playing (or paused) in an application for which there is an installed open track player interface. More information can be found in Open Track Playing In Menu.
- Use the File>Open Selected Items in menu to open tracks selected in iTunes, Music or TV.
- In the Database Viewer, when viewing a Track or Album database, select one or more items and do an Open from the context menu. You can also double click on an item in the Folder or File Path columns.
- You can open a file or folder from a command line via the supplied yate-cli command line utility. Additional information can be found in Opening files from a Command Line using yate-cli.
- You can open files via a URL. Additional information can be found in Opening files by URLs.
The Open Recent List
Yate maintains a list of recently opened files and folders. These items are available via the File>Open Recent menu item. Items can be made sticky by clicking on an item while holding down the Shift key. Clicking on a sticky item while holding down the Shift key will make it non sticky. Clicking on Clear Menu will remove all of the non sticky items. If you hold down the Option key, Clear Entire Menu will appear. Selecting Clear Entire Menu will remove all items, sticky and non sticky.
The Open Mode
Hide / Show Files
