The Snippet Manager provides the ability to retain functions which are executed in the Multi Field Editor. These items, snippets, can be restored to the Multi Field Editor and can also be used to automatically generate an action.
You can use the Snippet Manager to retain commonly used snippets, or to generate an action and then to delete the snippets or both. Whatever workflow you choose is up to you.
When an item is added to the Snippet Manager it retains all relevant settings which were specified in the Multi Field Editor function which was executed. This includes the active fields. For those functions which support \1 escape sequences to insert numeric sequences, the configuration data on the Multi Field Editor's Insert Sequence panel will also be retained.
Snippets are displayed in a table with new snippets always added at the end. The snippet is automatically displayed with a summary field. You can edit the summary field by inline editing the value. If you are retaining snippets, this can be a good idea.
Each line displays a lock checkbox and an index. The index is only used as a reference when an error is posted. When a snippet is locked, it will not be deleted when selected for deletion. ie. it protects the associated snippet from deletion.
You can use drag & drop to reorder the snippets.
If you are sharing preferences between one or more Macs, you can change the default location of the Snippet Manager's storage file to a location in Dropbox, Google Drive or some othe shared file location. This is done in Settings - General - Advanced.
The window has various toolbars items where each item has a tooltip.
The ✓ toolbar item will lock all selected rows.
The ▢ toolbar item will unlock all selected rows.
The ⇒ toolbar item will export all selected rows at a specified file.
The + toolbar item allows you to specify a file you previously exported to. The items in the file are added to the end of the table.
The blue action toolbar item is used to generate an action based on the selected rows in the table. The produced action is not visible as a Multi Field Editor action as all referenced fields are hard coded. ie. they represent the fields in effect when the snippet was added. Note that the generated action completely mirrors the behaviour of the Multi Field Editor. However, it does not take into account the changing of the file selection which may have occurred when the snippets were added. Some settings such as a track specification for the Credits functionality may not be meaningful.
The trash toolbar item will delete all selected rows in the table ... unless they are locked. The Delete key can be used for the same effect.
The eyeball toolbar item is only enabled when a single row is selected. The selected snippet will be restored and displayed in the Multi Field Editor. You can also perform this function by double clicking on the index number in a row.
There are also convenience toolbar items to open the Multi Field Editor and the Action Manager.
