If you are going to be using the Preferences-Apple Apps-Maximum iTunes Grouping-Work Name Compatibility option, files will be updated as saved. If you want to rewrite all affected mp3 and aiff files, you can run this action through the Batch Processor. This will ensure that editing the Work Name field in iTunes will not cause a loss of Grouping metadata.
The action can also be run in the UI where all selected files will be processed.
You can choose to use the current setting in Preferences-Apple Apps-Maximum iTunes Grouping-Work Name Compatibility. Alternately you can force the setting on or off.
