AcoustID provides a means of identifying tracks from audio fingerprints. There are two parts to the process. The first is the generation of a fingerprint and the second is the downloading of metadata associated with the fingerprint. While the downloaded metadata includes fields such as Title, Artist, Release and others, the primary interest is the inclusion of MusicBrainz IDs which facilitate MusicBrainz lookups for additional metadata.
