ID3 tag version

Viewing the raw metadata displays the ID3 tag version used in the file. Is there a way to change ID3 version?

iTunes can do this, but I wondered if Yate had that ability?

Would really appreciate being able to set the ID3 tag version used by Yate.

If I need to edit any files whose ID3 tags have been specifically set to be NOT 2.4. Yate just saves the files with 2.4. So I have to change that in iTunes again. Until I need to edit something again.

So I think it would be really useful to be able to set the version that Yate uses.

Any chance?

Sorry ... somehow I never got a notification about the previous post.

Yate has always had the ability to set the ID3 output format. It's in Preferences - Audio - ID3. The setting is called Write files as ID3v2.3. If you don't set it, the default of ID3 v2.4 is used.

In an action you can test the ID3 version that was read via the ID3 Version property. Also in an action you can override the settings via the Preferences statement using a Change individual setting of Write ID3v2.3 or Write ID3 v2.4.

Am I missing something?

I cannot see a scenario where a preserve ID3 version as a setting would work as you'd then have an issue with automatically converting newly acquired files to ID3 v2.4.

I suppose I could support a UDTI on a per file basis which would force ID3 v2.3 when saving that file. Is this what you're looking for?

I can see how any of the current means of setting an ID3 version can be a pain if you are working with multiple libraries which require different formats.

Yate v6.13 has a new means of forcing an ID3 format on a per file basis. The application will look for a UDTI or custom field named YateID3v. If the item is found and the value is 2.3 or 2.4, the value will determine the ID3 version as opposed to the settings or overwritten settings in an action.

Likewise, I never received notification of your response. Odd.

Anyway, I changed the pref so MP3's are saved as v2.3 which ought to prevent issues moving between iTunes and Yate.

That's all I need really. Thanks.
