Normal topicFormatting a filename based on Title

Hi folks. I'm trying to work out how to rename files based on Title but not an exact copy. I have music files such as "Bela Lugosi's Dead (Doctor Block Edit) (Regrid).mp3" and in an ideal world, I'd like to automate removal of problematic characters like the single quote and parentheses and replace the spaces with hyphens, so the file would be called "Bela-Lugosis-Dead-Doctor-Block-Edit-Regrid.mp3".

I am struggling to work out how to do this. I've explored Templates and Actions and although I use both for many other things, I cannot work out how to rename a file based on a modified version of Title.

Thanks!

I can get you an action to get rid of all non alphabetic characters and replace spaces with hyphens.

The source will be the Title and the result will be used to rename the files.

I'm not near a Mac now but I'll try and get to it later today or tomorrow.

Alphanumeric characters. I hate typing on a phone 🙁

Download and install:

https://2manyrobots.com/actions/mglong---Rename-from-compressed-Title.zip

This will give you:

Actions:
mglong - Rename from compressed Title

Rename Templates:
Variable 1

I've documented the action.

This is genius and I now understand how the Action interacts with the Rename Template.... Thank you very much!

The action is used for renaming. If you select it in the Action Manager and give it the Rename association, it will appear on the File>Rename>Actions submenu. I forgot to do it before exporting 🙁
