Would it be possible to create an action that replaces round brackets with square ones in the "Album" field?

Presumably more of a "coffee break challenge" than a particularly complex thing to achieve but this is an action I never knew I'd need. After all, it's easy enough to do with the "replace" function (although I still have to do it twice for each album as I'm changing the opening bracket first & then the closing bracket). but a change in my set-up means I'm suddenly doing it a lot!

Unless there's a way to do this "out of the box" I'd love an action I can use if at all possible.

Download: https://2manyrobots.com/actions/Round-Brackets-to-Square.zip

The action is named: Round Brackets to Square

If you run it directly, the Album field is preselected as the target. If you run it from the Actions panel in the Multi Field Editor, whatever fields you select will be used.

Thanks, that's excellent.

I didn't know you could do that!

Of the many actions I now have, only some of them are showing in the Multi-Field Editor.

Is that because only some of them are compatible with the process of choosing which field to affect?

A lot of the older ones ... you've had quite a few 🙂 were not written that way. If you'd like, send a list of actions and I'll have a look at upgrading them when I have time.

You can assign a grouping on the action in the Action Manger so that you can filter them in the MFE.

This is very cool. I found I can choose M in the "association" column & add it to the MFE. I assume that's correct?

I haven't tried it with all of them, just one or two that are a little awkward to get to (because they're in sub-folders, etc.)

This will work on any action .... however it will not make the action automatically MFE aware. ie. if the action was not designed with the MFE in mind, it will not adjust to the fields which are selected at the top of the MFE .... it will simply use whatever hard coded fields it has.

If you are aware of the above, the process of associating it with an M is benign. It really only makes sense if you like launching in that manner. If you're going to make a bunch of actions visible in the MFE it will pay to give them groupings in the Action Manager. That will let you filter the list on the MFE's action panel.
