Normal topicRenaming template question

with all my love to Yate, renaming templates are pain (comparing for example to f2k).
can't figure out how to create a new nested folder from where I strat renaming files. example:

original location
/something/sounds/artist - album/1.mp3

desired location
/something/sounds/A/artist/artist - album/1.mp3

no matter how I shape the template, the upper folder "sounds" gets removed and the additional "A" folder is created on higher levels, rather than inside "sounds". any help? tx.

You cannot use a Rename function to rename to something with more or less path components than you started with. To do this you must do a Move.

There is a Move Wizard which generates an action to perform the move you require. When the wizard finishes, the generated move action is available on the Rename menu's Actions submenu.

The Move wizard uses a rename template to determine the final structure that you want. You want the following rename template:

❨Current Filename❩
❨IfDup❩
     (❨Dup #❩)
❨endIf❩
❨Folder Start❩
❨Artist❩ - ❨Album❩
❨Folder Start❩
❨Artist❩
❨Folder Start❩
A

I've uploaded the template to https://2manyrobots.com/actions/frame-relocate.zip

You can install the rename template via Yate>Import Settings

Once you've imported the template go to Settings-Rename-Templates

Select the frame-relocate template and hit the blue action button to start the wizard.

On the first step of the wizard choose Runtime Path from the control at the bottom. From that point on follow the instructions.

To start the rename go to Files>Rename>Actions>whatever you called the action

The first time you run it you will be prompted for a path. You want to select the sounds path which is common to before and after. If you wish you can tell the action to use the same folder each time it's run.

If you meant Album Artist and not Artist, you'll have to change the template. I took everything literally.

Got this working, thanks. As this generated a new, quite complex action, is there a way to call it from another action, where the rest of my processing is? Or just copy/paste the lines into the main action.

It's mostly error checking. The actual move is one line. 🙂

You can call it directly from another action. There are no restrictions on calling actions unless restricted by a Test Run Context statement. If you want to run it in the UI from an Actions menu as opposed to only via a Rename menu, uncheck Hidden in the Action Manager.
