The actions initially provided in this topic are quite ancient. All resources are now available on the Yate Resources page.

You can access Resources via the Help menu in Yate or at:

I am not new to any of this, but confess I cannot figure out what to me seems to be the most basic "1, 2, 3" steps on how to use Yate. I've read/skimmed thru resources, watched videos (the screens shown on these videos don't come close to reflecting the version I have just purchased), and could use some "Yate for Dummies" help. My objective is to improve Roon's ability to identify my albums/tracks, thereby provide better content about the music. What are the specific steps needed to search for and apply correct tags? I have a lot of flac and DSD files, in addition to mp4. Because my library is diverse, I believe I will need to search multiple sources (Beartport, etc.) to find the data.

Thanks for your help.

Hi, This section of the forum is really old and more than likely should be removed. The last post was in 2012.

Yate Resources including sample actions are now found on the resource page. Links to the resource page can be found on the main Yate page or under the Resources topic which is the first topic in the forum. You can also access the page from the Yate Help menu.

There are no basic "1-2-3" steps to use Yate as Yate is used for an extremely large set of tagging scenarios. While the online help is constantly updated and refined you are absolutely correct in that what videos there are, are hopelessly out of date. As soon as there is some free time (argh!!!) we will work on getting them updated.

Unfortunately again, there are no specific steps required to get correct tags. Some people think of MusicBrainz and/or Discogs as containing correct tags. The issue is the word "correct". The metadata is yours and a large percentage of users want the data the way they want it regardless as to what the reference sites contain. There are also an infinite number of ways to name and organize your files and paths to the files.

I am not trying to be difficult I'm just trying to get you going.

First off I would read the topics on the main help page. They contain sufficient information to explain the loading of files under the various modes and other things that we consider information of "high importance". Once that is done you can start by playing with a few of the wizards manually.

For example, open a single album and launch the MusicBrainz Wizard. You can drill down to your album and import whatever data you wish. You can try the same with Discogs and if you wish on Beatport. However Beatport is more track oriented than album oriented. Then again, lots of Beatport content is only available on Beatport.

Getting stuff to work with Roon is another item entirely. We have all kinds of settings to handle Roon-isms where we think they are not conforming to standards. The best thing for you to do would be to go to Preferences-Audio and to select Roon from the Application Presets at the bottom of the panel. If you look at the online help for that panel, at the bottom of the page you will see a link to the 'Roon Audio Settings' topic. That contains more information on Roon-isms.

There also is a Combined Credits Manager which can help you coerce credits to formats expected by Roon. There is a better than average chance that credits downloaded from any reference site will not "play well" with Roon. The Combined Credits Manager, which is far too extensive to go over here, was to a large part designed simply to make sense of Roon's thousands of credit variations.

You will also have to "tell Roon" to read metadata from your files as opposed from their own reference. This is done in their settings.

There are still a number of tagging issues with Roon and we are working with them to get them resolved.... on their timetable.

I know that this is not a simple answer to your question. Hopefully I've given enough direction to start experimenting.
