Normal topicmessed up MP3 headers?

I don't know how I did it but a file that had worked to create an AcoustID fingerprint previously is no longer letting me create one. About the only thing that has changed is I've done some manual and action editing of the UDTI fields and fixed the description for the artwork, edited the genre to have two genres (and in the midst of doing this change in the preferences the ;;; to ... because the ... in between stuff just made it a little easier to read with my text size as small as it is. The error that popped up is in the screenshot. I have tried AcoustID on several other files and it still works on them so somehow this one file was corrupted? The log text is below.

I’ve discovered an emotion that can’t be expressed in words.

But the true meaning of this crashing wave within my chest,
Has been blocked out by the sunlight, still unclear to me.

Much like the picture journal I kept back then,
Everything is filled with color.

Even if I close my eyes to the blinding midsummer sky and the blue of the sea,
I’ll grab hold of the ladder in my heart and never let go. I hear your voice…
I wonder if this is “love”?

When I’m looking at your profile, as I walk beside you pushing your bike,
I stare so hard I forget to breathe.

Just like the kaleidoscope I looked through when I was a child,
Each day cycles through, constantly changing.

Even the discomfort of being burned by the midsummer sun,
Even happiness… pain… everything will feel entirely new to me…
I don’t want to lose these precious feelings.

I wonder why I want to know more…
… about you … about myself?

Even if I close my eyes to the blinding midsummer sky and the blue of the sea,
I’ll grab hold of the ladder in my heart and never let go.
I hear the gentle sound of your voice,
And our love begins.

Okay something else that is strange - I noticed from this log that there the language of the comment was wrong and I tried to change it and that there was an iTunNORM comment I don't what is about. I tried to delete this comment and it deleted the description but remains as the default comment and can't delete it. And I can't figure out how to make the correct comment the default comment. I tried editing the incorrect one but then it just recreates a new empty comment of language eng with no description again. Screenshot of the comment panel below.

Hmm, Yate never modifies the audio portion of a file. The code to calculate the fingerprint is a binary from AcoustID so I can't debug it. If it plays fine and VOX is not complaining then perhaps something is wrong with something called by the fingerprinter. When in doubt, I reboot and try again. If you have the original file and the current file I could always try and see if anything changed.

I do not recommend changing the multi-value delimiter and in fact at some point I might disable the ability to change it. dot-dot-dot appears far too often in text. In fact your lyrics contain ... sequences. (This should not matter in lyrics).

I'm not sure what their error means but that's a large address since the mp3 data should be at the front of the file. If you do a 'Log>Raw Data' in Yate and send me the text file I can see where the audio starts.

This comment thing is not just with this particular file, I went into another file that seemed fine that had a similar comment. Screenshot one is before editing. Screenshot two is after editing. It creates this empty default English comment as the default comment and I can't find a way to get rid of it. GRR 😯

What about if I change it to an ___ (three underscores) ? Is this going to break something? I just want to be able to read things a bit easier and the ;;; is not eye friendly to my aging eyes. 🙁 What is the reason you recommend against changing it?

I will email you the files and the raw log. Give me a few minutes to retrieve the file - its on an external drive that isn't currently connected.

The default comment as interpreted by virtually every audio application is the first comment with an empty description field. As Yate isolates the default comment for display and editing purposes, it creates a 'default' if it does not exist. When the file is written the default comment is not written if it is empty.

iTunes has the added constraint that the default comment has 'eng as its language. That is why there is an option on the iTunes preference panel to use the 'iTunes strict definition of comment'.

The iTunNORM comment is an iTunes item which contains their interpretation of 'replay gain' or volume normalization.

Using ___ should be fine. If you're going to change it pick something and keep it. There are various cases where the sequence has to be written out to due to unsupported features in the audio files. This is especially true for m4a files, less true for flac files and almost never true for mp3 files.

Not changing the value just keeps a baseline that is consistent. Without knowing for sure how old you are I can safely predict that my eyes are older....and I use ;;; 🙂

Hmm, what is the point of having a description field if I has to be empty?

I have the option unchecked in Preferences but I didn't know that is what it was all about. I don't know why, maybe because I like so many aspects about many foreign cultures but that really bugs me about Apple, there are a lot of other languages in the world and English is not the default for the majority of people on the planet. I don't know, maybe it is the default language though for people who use still iTunes. Personally, I stopped using iTunes (except if purposefully searching the iTunes store for something) when it became more of marking tool for the Apple media stores than a music player.

So I suppose I should just delete the description and put it in the comment itself and call it English so that it will display in my comments field correctly.

Born in 1968 - makes me 47. I don't really 'feel' old until something like the more cramped text is together makes me squint. 🙁
