I am looking for a solution to batch tag a big music collection. I am wondering if it would be possible to automate Yate to do

for every album in ~/music do
- run discogs wizard and only display the select release promt and track mapping confirmation dialogue
- do certain post actions (without a prompt)
repeat

While Yate does support batch processsing there is no Action step as of yet which will allow you to run the Discogs and/or MusicBrainz wizards. I'll have to think about this for a while. The Action processor has the ability to break out and allow interaction but not while batch processing which is geared towards silent running. I would a combination of the two methods.

I was wondering if this was still true. (Can't batch Musicbrainz lookups.)

Also, I have a special case. I have several hundred CDs that already have MusicBrainz ReleaseIds but not all the MusicBrainz tags.
(The ripper I used looked them up, but didn't import all the tags.)
I'd like to get the rest of the tags in batch mode. This shouldn't require user intervention...

Thanks,
tlc

Well it depends on what else you got the first time around. The way it stands now you need the release id and one of two track associations to be retained. In addition to the release id you need at least one of a MusicBrainz track ID and/or a MusicBrainz track position ID. This was implemented this way to ensure a match between your tracks and the tracks in the MusicBrainz database. If these conditions are met you can use the Access MusicBrainz function in batch mode.

If you have not retained some sort of track association the Access MusicBrainz function will not run. Let me know if this is the case. If it is I'll have to add matching logic for the tracks in the release. The reason it was implemented as is, is that it is foolproof. Matching the tracks always has a degree of potential risk.

You should be okay. FLAC comments 5 & 7 should do the trick.

Give it a try on a single album. Create a one line action with an 'Access MusicBrainz' statement. Choose Log Changes (for now) and Custom. In the Custom list choose whatever you're interested in. Run the batch processor and pass in a single album. The log file will show you what is being imported.

I imagine MusicBrainz data occasionally gets updated. This would be useful for that case too.

Yep. Remember that the Custom settings are tri-states. '-' implies "only import if currently empty".
