Normal topicFinder "Open With" menu not working

Launch Services used by the Finder's "Open With" menu gets confused over time. Especially after adding successive versions of the same application. Yate gets updated often 🙂

If "Open With" does not seem to be working with Yate these steps should solve the issue.

You can remove the current information which will then be rebuilt whenever opening a file.

In a terminal window copy, paste then execute the following command:

/System/Library/Frameworks/CoreServices.framework/Frameworks/LaunchServices.framework/Support/lsregister -kill -r -domain local -domain system -domain user

The command may take a while to finish executing.

After finished, restart the Finder by right clicking on its dock icon while holding down the Options key and by selecting Relaunch.

"Open With" should now present a cleaner menu and should work as expected.

There is also a free application called Onyx which has specific versions for different OS versions. You can download it from:

https://www.titanium-software.fr/en/onyx.html

If you want to go down this route, run Onyx and click on maintenance. You can uncheck everything except Rebuilding-LaunchServices and then click on the Run Task button.
