I've grown comfortable with the workflow of using XLD to rip my CDs and managing all the metadata with Yate. And I've recently started using Audirvana to playback my entire collection too. But noticed something strange there.

Amongst the tags, I see a weird alpha-numeric code as part of the comments field within files that have nothing in the comments field actually. At 1st I thought it was Yate forcing through some MusicBrainz ID or some such—but then, it turned out to be XLD.

Yate being my primary choice for metadata editing, I wish to know how I can get rid of this particular tag. Because apart form Audirvana, it seems to be appearing even in Kodi now.

I'm assuming that you're talking about the 'iTunes_CDDB-*' items. If so, you can more than likely see these items on the UD Text editing panel. From there you can manually delete the items. Alternately, in an action, you can use the User Defined Fields statement to remove them all:

Remove all User Defined Text Items with prefix 'iTunes_CDDB_'

Unfortunately the way XLD represents the tags in their list may not be the same as they are represented in the files. So my choice of 'iTunes_CDDB_' as the name may not be correct. The UD Text panel should give you the 'real' representation.

If for any reason you can't see the items, do the following: On the Preferences-General-Common panel, make sure that 'Verbose log raw data' is checked. Select one of the tracks with the undesired metadata and do a File>Log>Log Data. Save the displayed information to a text file, zip it up and send it top us as support@2manyrobots.com.

I do not see any UD Text defined for these tracks—as shown below. So I enabled Verbose log raw data from the Audio section of the Preferences—not the General (i'm assuming that was the one). It is quite small so am embedding it here. Thanks for your time.

Oops...they're not using UDTIs. They're storing the metadata as named Comments. You'll see the items on the Comments editing panel.

The action remains the same other than choosing Comments in the User Defined Fields statement:

Remove all Comments with prefix 'iTunes_CDDB_'

I'm glad you found the Verbose option even though I told you to look in the wrong place. I'm on a Mac now, not my phone, so the reply will be more reliable 🙂

I think I found it. I clicked on the Show Edit Panel Picker form the Window menu and picked on the Comments tab—it replaced the UD Text section in the edit pane with the Comments tab, where all the iTunes junk data is visible. Deleting it from here seems to be solving my issue.

But since I have so many tracks, do tell me if my defined action (in my previous reply) is correct though. I'd like to be able to use that technique on the remaining files of mine.

You can set any Edit Panel Preset button to a different panel by right clicking on the button. (Yate uses context menus pretty much everywhere). There is no need to use the Edit Panel Picker panel.....it works but does take additional screen space. If you can't see the panel you want in the context menu, look at the Others submenu.

You're action is not correct. You must use a User Defined Fields statement. See the attached image for the required options.
