Hi everybody!
Recently I discovered that every time I manually insert a cover that I want to scale to 800x800, the resolution of that image is changed to 144dpi, no matter what resolution was in origin.
If I use auto search or if I insert an image which is already 800x800 that doesn't happen.

Is that a bug or am I missing something?

When an image is imported into Yate it gets converted into the Mac's internal image format. The resize operation simply asks for the image to be made smaller without taking dpi into consideration. Eventually, before storing the image to the file, Yate asks for the jpeg or png representation of the data...which again is based on the internal image format.

When an image is not resized, Yate preserves the original data which was read. For this reason dpi is not altered.

Hopefully this all makes sense.

I see…
That means that if I ask Yate to auto search on the web for a cover and scale it to 800x800 it actually looks for an original 800x800 and not a bigger one that have to be scaled, right?
Because I tried auto searching with scale on and got an 800x800 at 300dpi and then without scale and got a 1425x1425 at 300dpi…

Yes. For auto search I set the target size to whatever you're looking for. So if your scale factor is set to 800x800 and I get the image in at that resolution, scaling does not take place. Now it's entirely possible that the other end (wherever) scales the image and preserves stuff better than the Mac APIs. However, quite often scaling is required with auto search...and when it does scale it falls thorough the same code. There is only one place in the code that scaling occurs.

It potentially can have something to do with the image format. Dragged images tend to come in as TIFF data. Auto search tends to return stuff primarily as JPG or PNG. Also, Yate coerces dragged image data to whatever format you've specified in preferences. JPEG or PNG. If the data has to be reformatted, who knows what Apple is doing.
