Normal topicSimple question about tagging Rolling Stone Top 500 Albums

Long time lurker 1st time poster 😎

I have simple question about tagging Rolling Stone Top 500 Albums.

I want to tag the albums RS001 to RS500. My question is what field(s) would be best to use for tagging these albums.

My music library is ripped to FLAC and I transcode when needed, i.e., when sending to iTunes.

Thanks in advance for your thoughts... Please be kind to the noob 😀

Personally I would tag them individually as separate albums each in its own folder in the file system. That will make it far easier to match in Discogs or MusicBrainz if you're so inclined and it will be easier to find artwork.

You can always add a comment containing the relative place in the sequence:

Rolling Stone Top 500 Albums # n

Alternately, you could put the comment in a Grouping or Category field.

It seems to me that the metadata would be done like any other album other than some means of quickly locating that it is one of the 500.

Just my personally thoughts. 🙂

That is exactly what I do. All of my albums are properly tagged and in individual folders. I was just wondering if anyone had a recommendation for the category field(s)

Maybe one for Rolling Stone Top 500 Album and another for top 500 position...

In the past I simply used the comments field but was looking for thoughts on a more elegant solution...

Hmmm ... not much else other than comments. You can make up fields and/or custom fields named: Award and Award Position.

Award=Rolling Stone Top 500 Albums
Award Position=5 or 5/500

That way if you have other groupings such as these you could be consistent. If you want the data to show in iTunes you're going to be more constrained as they support a limited number of fields.

Yeah iTunes is a PITA, not my favorite app... I handled it very similar to that in the comments section and the grouping section for iTunes. Then set-up playlists...
