Normal topicCan YATE sort into folders?

Hi,

- detail - I had a hard-drive fail and lost a lot of music files. I've managed to recover the files only, so now I have thousands of music files in one folder. They are tagged but missing art work, cue, logs etc.

- question - Can YATE take the mass of files and save them into individual folders - artist/album based on their tag information? It lists them correctly grouped in the app but I can't see how to export/save them to new folders.

thanks.

Sorry to hear about your drive 🙁

I'm email you an action to move the files shortly.

worked like a charm. thanks.

Is it possible to edit the .plist to sort by album only and ignore artist completely. Several of the files in my test were from compilations and ended up being sorted into separate artist folders instead of into a various artist directory.

I can do better than that. When albums have a unique Album Artist (or Artist) I'll use the Artist/Album layout. When there is not a consistent {Album} Artist, I'll put them in Various Artists/Album.

Will you run the new action over a copy of the folder 'with thousands of files' or will you run it over the tree structure which resulted after the previous run?

Let me know and I'll build you the action.

For the test run I isolated 100 or so files and pointed to that folder on both prompts, apart from the destination folder obviously.

I can easily resort these files and just delete the resulting tree structure i guess.

The recovery folder 'with thousands of files' is divided into Mp3s, FLAC & Mp4a folders. Within those there are corresponding files, some random folders with more files.
As you recommended to avoid subfolders, I was thinking I would remove the random subfolders, but keep the format designating folders. So I would run the action over the mp3 folder etc.

thanks again for all the help.

Don't worry about it. I'll write it to handle all cases.... before and after. Just leave the folders however they are are. I won't be able to get to it until later in the day but I'll get it to you as soon as I can.
