Normal topicfix all wrong album title on hundreds of tracks

My first task with Yate, that all other tools I tried can't help me with, is to fix several hundreds of wrong album titles, which is a left over from a copy I needed to do some years back preparing for gig, to an external medium. Skipping the details a bug in iTunes forced me to rename all tracks I wanted to the same (wrong) album.

I was hoping Yate would be the perfect tool, but I see no obvious way to get started, even though I read the intro in help.

So what I want to do is to search, preferably on discogs as most tracks are there, with track name and artist and get the possible alternatives from discogs, choose one manually if there are several — if just one option then change the album title to that — on this big group of tracks and update iTunes when I've inspected the results.
In the process I'd like any multiple data in the track name, like artist and track number to be removed from the name field and put in the specific fields for that piece of data if currently empty.

Any suggestions on how to get started with this? Is Yate the tool for this kind of job?

It seems to me that the easiest method would be to use AcoustID.

If you haven't downloaded it yet get the 2.4.0.1 update as that's what I'm documenting this off and I made patches to the AcoustID code today.

- open your tracks
- link to iTunes
- calculate the fingerprint. Context menu AcoustID>Create AcoustID Fingerprint
- extract the metadata from AcoustID. Context menu AcoustID>Get Data from AcoustID
- open the AcoustID import window. Context menu AcoustID>Import AcoustID Recording Information

Every track which has a fingerprint and which was matched will have Recording and Release entries in the window. The release items will have album names. If you right click on a release you can import the album name. You can import the Album name for every track or for only one track in the album. If you do it the later way you can set the same album for all tracks which require it from the main window UI.

Once you're done importing close the window. When you save your files iTunes will be updated.

Try it on one album to make sure it works the way you want.

If you want to remove stuff from the filenames you can use a supplied rename template or write your own. If you do the rename while linked to iTunes, the locations in iTunes will automatically be updated.

I hope this helps.
