Normal topicOrganizing Loose Files

Hi there!

Is there an action that could organize a folder of loose files (FLAC in my case) into folders per album? Album Artist Name - Album Title naming structure or something similar? Subfolders for CD1, CD2 would be a bonus!

I searched and I couldn't find what I was looking for.

Thanks,
SetField

I'll cobble something together for you. Is the metadata clean? ie. are the Disc numbers set appropriately?

BTW while CD folders are entirely up to you, I'm not a big believer in them. Many modern players do far better with all tracks in an album being in the same folder, regardless of disc number.

Yes, metadata is cleaned (by me) beforehand.

I agree… CD folders aren’t desirable. I typically name my track files “02.03 Blah.flac” where 02 is the disc number and 03 is the track number.

Oh, and there may not be disc numbers if the album has only one disc.

Thank you!!!

Download the action at: https://2manyrobots.com/actions/Move-Loose-Files.zip

After installing you'll have an action named Move Loose Files.

Load all the files in the folder into Yate and start the action. All loaded files will automatically be selected. You'll be prompted for a destination folder. That's the folder to receive the 'Album Artist' folders.

A unique album is defined as having the same Album Artist and Album fields (case and diacritic insensitive). If an album does not have a disc number > 1, no disc numbers will be set on the filename. If the album has a disc number > 1, all empty disc numbers will be set to 1 and filenames will have a disc number.

If you have 5,000 or 6,000 files in the folder this may not be the best way to do it. However, doing it this way as opposed to loading each file in the action has the advantage of being able to analyze the disc numbers across an entire album.

I've done a little testing and it seems to work fine. You might want to create a small folder with some tracks in it to test before running everything through the action.

Works well! Thank you SO much for your continuous support and generation of these actions.
