Normal topichow does Yate deal with duplicates?

Hi there,

If I understand correctly the list of features, Yate can find duplicate songs - I assume/hope by using audio fingerprints.
But once duplicates are found, how does Yate deal with them?

* Are duplicates removed? How does Yate decide which file is the keeper?
* Is the duplicate's metadata coalesced into the keeper? How?
* And what happens with playlists that contained the removed duplicates? Are they fixed to use the keeper?

Hi.

Yate does have the ability to find duplicates but it does not use fingerprinting. There are all kinds of issues with two tracks having almost the same fingerprint and in fact there are far too many cases of multiple tracks with overlapping fingerprints and multiple fingerprints for tracks in the online database.

Yate handles duplicates from within a track database. There is an action on the resources web page called Create Database Utility. It can be used to easily produce a track database through the batch processor. The layout for the database is defined in an Export Set. The utility bundles a few sample export sets, one of which is suitable for the look for duplicates functionality.

Once you have the database there is a built in function named Look for Duplicates. You establish criteria and the duplicates are identified in the database. No attempt is made to delete the duplicates. If you want to delete or move the files, that can be performed by an action run from within the database. As provided, the functionality is mostly for identification purposes. There are cases where the audio quality can be better in one variant than another. Additionally many people retain duplicates as they may occur in different albums.

As far as adjusting playlists, I assume that you're referring to playlists in iTunes/Music. If you have the Apple permanent IDs (PIDs) retained in the files, this is possible as Yate can determine which playlist contain a track. There is another batch process to get the PIDs ... on the Actions menu.
