Hot topicMoving or copying numbered image files to numbered folders

Hi there.

I have an action that you very kindly wrote for me some time ago that looks like it should work but doesn't.

I thought it might've been because the action is for PNGs not JPGs so I copied the action & changed all PNG references to JPG but it's still not working.

I guess it must be looking for something in the file name that isn't there?

Here is the action, error message & a screenshot showing the numbered folders & the "covers" folder with the numbered files in.

Ideally I would like to copy each numbered JPG into the corresponding numbered folder. 🙂

I found the action. Screenshots of the action text in the action do not help much 🙂

Yes, the original action used PNG as opposed to JPG. Also, the original looked for folders ending in _###. These are _##. The original also only processed image files which began with ###.

I've updated the action to process any folder which ends with _#. Where # is any sequence of decimal digits.

Any image named #_Cover.xxx will be matched. Where # is the same numeric pattern as in the folder name and xxx is jpg or png. You'll get a warning if there is more than one matching image for a # sequence.

The number is treated as a pattern. ie. 0123 will not match 123.

This is version 2 of the action. Make sure you install it via Yate>Install Preferences and make sure that Overwrite is enabled. If Overwrite is not enabled, you'll have two copies with the new one being labeled as the copy. If for any reason you want to keep both, rename the original action before importing the new one.

Yes, I was simply hoping that the screenshot would direct you to the action in your magnificent archive of actions & save me the trouble of having to write an additional message to learn how to locate & export the action, so that I could send it to you. 😆

Thanks for this. Will hopefully get to try it out this evening.

So, I think it's whale omelette time again, but I can't see a Yate > Install Preferences anywhere, in the Yate menu or any other menu. What am I doing wrong?

It's at times like these that I think... D'oh! I probably should have noticed that ever so slight & quite obvious difference.

I'll blame it on being super busy & not being able to give it me full attention, rather than being an idiot.

Okay, so I'm getting the following error:

Does the folder displayed in the error message .../Covers, contain the folders or the images? It should contain the folders. The first prompt for a folder is for the images folder. The 2nd prompt for a folder is for the folder containing the name_# folders.

I just tried it, selecting Images for the artwork and DOwnloads for the folders and it worked as expected. See the screenshot.

Does the folder displayed in the error message have any folders named name_# directly in it? ,,, or are they in subfolders? If the name_# folders are directly in the named folder, something is wrong and I'll need to see a screenshot of the folder's contents. If the name_# folders are in subfolders, I don't need anything.

I just noticed that you have an action of the same name with recursive at the end of it. I'm assuming that it was to handle subfolders. I'll retrofit it a little later today,

Note that there was no need for the Images folder to be in Downloads.

Perfect!

Out of interest (because even though you've probably told me, I sometimes don't take it all in) if I were to have images called, for example "Disc_01_Cover.jpg" would it still work?
