Normal topicImport .zip files in Yate?

Hi!

I'm wondering if it is possible to use the default action and the zip/unzip function to unzip a .zip in its current location, import its content in Yate and trash the .zip file.
The idea is to remove the first step of unzipping the archive in the Finder before importing its content in Yate by a drag and drop.

I have bad news, good news and better news 🙂

First the bad. There is no way to install an action from an action.

The good. There is no need to unzip an action downloaded from the resources site. Simply drag the zip file. For a very few actions, this will not work and it's always documented.

The better. The next release of Yate has a built in installer which displays all of the available resource actions. No need to drag.

I was thinking specifically of .zip with music files in it. I realize my initial post wasn't clear.

LOL. Okay. That's possible. I put together a prototype for you.

Actually, an action cannot intercept the dragging of a zip file to the main window.

Version 7.0 which will be out shortly extends the power of droplets by allowing a droplet to be configured to pass the dragged files to the associated action as opposed to loading them. So it will be entirely possible to drag a zip file to a droplet and have it unzip it and load the unzipped audio files.

If you wanted to do it in the released version, you'd have to prompt for the zip file. Let me know if you want to do it with a prompt for now.

You can download a sample action at: https://2manyrobots.com/actions/Load-Files-Contained-in-zip-File.zip

The action is named Load Files Contained in zip File.

If you run it in the released version (v6.20.0.1) you will be prompted for a zip file. Once version 7.0 is released you can create a droplet as displayed in the attached screenshot. You can then drag a zip file to the droplet and the prompt will not be issued.

Note that how the files get loaded depends on the Open Mode in effect when the action gets run. If you want to force a specific open mode, you can always do so by placing a Set Open Mode statement in the action.

Thank you! I will patiently wait for Yate 7.0 to be released.
