The main window toolbar currently only allows for icon based viewing, in contrast to the systemwide allowance of icon, text, or both. Learning the app from scratch is MUCH easier, when you can read what the individual toolbar items are called, and not just having to guess based on iconography, or having to check each individual icons tooltip. The text values are already there, as you can see them when you modify the toolbar.

Actually that is not correct. Yate exposes every toolbar display option. Which configurations are available on the toolbar depend on the OS version. ie. the Customize Toolbar functionality is controlled by the system ... not Yate. On newer versions of macOS, the toolbar is very limited unless the Title Bar is displayed.

Do a Window>Show Title Bar. On newer versions of the OS this will enable the text under the toolbar options. Unfortunately it also has the side effect of changing how a flexible space works so you may have to space out the icons again.
