Normal topicActions - inserting named variable?

I am trying to copy a part of the album title to a custom grouping tag via actions. Maybe I did not get them properly but I was first trying to copy a part of the album title (complete title is e.g. "Part 01 - Title") via substring to a named variable. In a second stept I then wanted to paste the series name plus the part from the album title to the grouping tag but how would I insert the named variable there? Right-clicking brings up plenty of possible insertions but the variables sub-menu stays empty. Can I insert them manually?

Sorry for posting prematurely, I managed to get it right by looking at some sample actions and did it as follows:

Substring [6, 2] of Album -> Variable 0
Append the Artist field to the TXXX GRP1 field
Append "·#" and the Variable 0 field to the TXXX GRP1 field

Yep you got it.

Variable 0 is not a named variable ... it is a track variable which in this case is exactly what you wanted to use. Track variables are inserted in text by a escape sequence. eg. \v0

Track variables can be inserted from the escape menu, however, it is usually simpler to manually insert them as above.

Do you have an explanation somewhere for the difference in track and named variables? At first it seemed to me that coming from windows/mp3tag, Yate is okay but less capable - the more I dive into it, it becomes apparent that it is actually the other way around. It's just that the power is sometimes a little bit hidden. 🙂

Yate's Help menu has an item called Yate Help which lists a bunch of topics of which Variables is one.

At any time you can do a Help>Search Yate Help and look for things. Searching for Variables gets a lot of hits. 🙂

There is also a document on the web resources page named Yate and the P Word. This covers variable usage in more detail. The examples can be downloaded from the document or via Yate>Resource Actions Installer. Search for P word; check the row and hit Install Checked Actions.

You can bookmark online documents by doing a Yate>Search Yate Help. From the leftmost panel's context menu do a Create Resource Bookmarks.

Thanks, especially the P-Word document was rather helpful!
