Normal topicSort Artist preference?

Is it possible to set the the Sort Artist field to first name, last name. When I import metadata from Discogs or MusicBrainz it imports the Sort Artist and Sort Album Artist last name, first name. thanks and happy new year!

Hmm, I can see MusicBrainz doing it. I'm not sure how Discogs gets the sort names.

The 'Flip to First Name-Last Name ' action contained in:
http://2manyrobots.com/actions/FlipToFirstName-Last Name.zip

will flip Sort Artist and Sort Album Artist based on a comma in the name.

You can run it manually or automatically after importing. For both the Discogs and MusicBrainz wizards you can set actions to be run automatically after an import.

Happy New Year back at you.

Hmm... the file is there. The link is broken in the forum post. It doesn't line the space in the name.

Try

Sorry...I renamed the file and got rid of the space:

The link in the last post is now correct.

And is there an action I can use to do the opposite? That is, to change Artist 'firstname lastname' 'lastname, first name' - the complication being that the artist field has multiple artists separated by ;;;. So what I imagine I want to end up with is Artist showing 'lastname, first name;;;lastname, first name;;;lastname, first name;;;lastname, first name;;;lastname, first name'
The alternative would be to have the 'lastname, first name' order in Sort Artist, if that can be done from the Artist field through actions.

Sorry, slight typo, I meant to say:

Sure 🙂 Download:

http://2manyrobots.com/actions/ArtistToLastFirst.zip

Unzip and import the plist file via Yate>Import Preferences. You'll have a new action named Artist to {Sort} Artist lastname, firstname

The action can save the rearranged Artist field to Artist or Sort Artist. The action documents where you enable one statement and disable another to flip the destination.
