Normal topicCopying date from one file to another in a compilation

Greetings,

Very new to Yate and metatag editing altogether. Is there a way to copy all the data from one track to another in a compilation album where all the variables are essentially the same except for the track names themselves? Sorry if this is basic info but have only started to use the software today

Regards, Roman

There are a lot of ways to handle this. It all depends on the state of the metadata as it currently exists.

In Yate if you open a new (compilation) album, you would typically select all the tracks in the the main file list. If you then change a field, say Album, the change will be reflected throughout the tracks. If for some reason, Album is already correct in one track, you could click on the coloured button to the left of the Album field; select Choose Value; select the value you like and accept the change. That would reflect the chosen value throughout all the selected tracks. You can do this same with Artwork by using an image's context menu and selecting 'Apply to All Files'. In this manner you would make the common metadata 'whole' by working on all the tracks at once. It is somewhat rare to have only one track which has the correct metadata for an entire album.

There are UI and action based methods of importing 'everything' but this is typically used when re-ripping a file to a different format.

Getting to where you want to be is more of a workflow issue than anything else 🙂

That being said, you can pretty much do anything in Yate actions. For example, if track 1 always contained the correct data, it is fairly easy to write an action to copy everything from track 1 (except Title) to the others.

If I'm missing something here, please let me know.
