Normal topicdate fields in Yate and Flac

Hi,

I'm new to tagging and Yate so please bear with me. Until now I have used iTunes and have tagged my music collection using the common fields in iTunes, including "YEAR".

Issue #1

Recently I started using a music streamer (Aurelic Aries) to play my music. The streamer allows me to sort albums by what it calls "Release Year". However because of a glitch in their software, all but one album shows up as "0". One downloaded album (Somethin' Else by Cannonball Adderley) shows up as released in 2009.

Upon making inquiries with Aurelic, I was told that Lightning uses the "DATE" tag. I've posed the exchange below:

"Just confirmed it use Date tag and the date has to be in full format (YYYY-MM-DD) to be show up in Artist filter. We are working on an improvement at right moment to let all tag that can work with function (like YYYY-DD-MM or just YYYY)."

I have a couple of questions:

1. In Yate, I would like to confirm that the "Date" tag is the field "YEAR"?

2. If so, why will Yate not let me enter the full format (YYYY-MM-DD) and will only let me enter YYYY?

Issue #2

The Lightning DS app as well as Linn Kazoo (another software to play music from server) create folder views for artists, tracks, genre, dates, etc. Under the "dates" folder there are sub-folders...all of which reflect the same year as the "Year" field one can see in Yate. However, there is one folder titled "2009-12-01" that contains Somethin' Else, the downloaded album. In looking at the fields for the track on that album however I couldn't find the value "2009-12-01".

Questions:

1. What fields should be looking for? I've looked at YEAR, RELEASE TIME, and ORIGINAL RELEASE TIME. Are there other fields I'm missing? If so, how do I display them in Yate?

Thanks in advance for any assistance in solving this mystery and helping me ensure that my tagging is accurate.

Normal topicRe: date fields in Yate and Flac

Hi,

Year in Yate is mapped to the same low level items as in iTunes.

Issue #1:

There is no low level ID3 or MGEG-4 item called DATE. FLAC files can be mapped to anything and Yate by default maps Year to a FLAC comment called DATE. I'm not sure if they're taking about FLAC files or referring to 'DATE' as a somewhat generic term.

1. Yes
2. Yate in the UI limits the Year field to a presentation supported by iTunes data entry. This restricts it to an integer value. However, Yate will preserve the value actually in the file and will allow you to set it to anything you want via action statements. So if in an action you set Year to 2015-07-23 it will retain the value but will be displayed as 2015.

Actually they are somewhat incorrect in their explanation of a time stamp. The full format is YYYY-MM-DDThh:mm. For example: 2015-07-23T21:53

Issue #2:

I'm not sure where they would be pulling the data from. You can probably find out by selecting the files and doing a Log>Text from the context menu. The log will display all the current tag values for the selected files. You can search on 2009-12-09 and see if exists anywhere in the metadata. If the data is not somewhere in the files I have no idea where it is coming from. It is possible that the value is mapped to Year but is only partially displaying (due to the Issue 1).

It is pretty easy to add an option to not force strict iTunes like data entry to the Year field. That would allow you to pretty much put whatever you wanted in there. If you or anyone else has any interest in this, please weigh in.

Normal topicRe: date fields in Yate and Flac

Thank you for the quick reply. I ran the Log>Text on the 6 files in question and couldn't find 2009-12-01 in the metadata.

I would like the option to not force strict iTunes like data. Would make it easier to use the actual date if someone is interested (without having to use action statements).

I'm going to wait to see what happens once they fix the glitch. If the issue is not resolved I may return for more technical assistance.
