Normal topicCopy specific tags from track x to track y

Hello Yate support,

i'm in the process of re-ripping several cds. Now i wanted to copy several tags from the old CD-Rip and paste it to the new Rip (e.g. Rating, Grouping etc).

Is this possible in Yate? I'm quite sure it is, but i don't know how.

Maybe like this:
1. Select Tracks of the old CD-Rip and perform a copy operation.
2. Select the Fields which shall be copied (e.g. Rating, Grouping)
3. Select Tracks of the new CD-Rip and perform a paste operation (precondition all Tracks are in the same order)

Thank you for the information.

Load both rips of a CD at the same time in Yate. Sort the tracks so that one is at the top and one is at the bottom with the identical track order.

From the Actions menu choose 'Copy Metadata' and then either 'Copy Metadata Top to Bottom' or 'Copy Metadata Bottom to Top'.

That's it, all metadata will be copied from your earlier copy to the new.

Ok that's easy. But is it possible to copy only specific tags?
For example: The new rip is already better tagged than the old one. I only wanted to copy the grouping and rating field.

Not through the UI. It is of course possible via actions.

One method is to dynamically load one rip and extract and save the metadata that you want. This requires some programmatic means of determining the 'associated' alternate track for any given file. This is sometimes problematic.

The other method is to load up two copies of the album as if you were going to do a Copy Metadata and then to simply run an action. This method is easy and deterministic. As long as your tracks are properly ordered it will work fine.

If you'd like I can knock this off for you. 🙂

That is exactly what I was going to ask for me!
Would it be possible to have an sample action posted in the actions forum dep?

Thanx a lot!!!

The action was originally written in v3.13 but it gave me a couple of ideas. I've introduced a new action statement which eliminates about 2/3 of the action and at the same time I've added the functionality to the UI. v3.14 should be released on Monday at which time I'll update the sample actions page.

Bumping this 6 year old thread. 😯

Sometimes Discogs has metadata for one track but a rip has that track broken into several files/tracks. I’d like to be able to copy the missing metadata from the one track to the others. Is this now possible? Thanks!

Select the track with metadata and the tracks to receive the metadata. Make sure that the track with the metadata is at the top of the selection. You can always drag and drop the file.

Actions>Copy Metadata>Copy/Configure Selected Metadata

Select the metadata you want to copy and and then select Copy One to Many from the function control.
