"Sigur Rós" is not found, while "Sigur Ros" is found correctly and displayed as "Sigur Rós" in the results.

There are many similar problems. I am not sure what you mean by escaping within escaping - as long as you URL-encode the query string, you should be fine.

Unfortunately not correct. The query strings are URL encode and always have been. There are additional escape sequences in the query processed by the search engine. Most of these oddities are not documented. There are different 'dirty cases' for both MusicBrainz and Discogs which have been found.

I'm of the mind to simply remove all accents from characters.

Case in point. Discogs seems to accept Sigur Rós while MusicBrainz only takes Sigur Ros.
