Hi folks

Is there a way to delete a file from the main window? I'm looking for a shortcut (e.g. Cmd+Backspace as per Finder) to simply delete a file. I often browse files and see a crap 128 bit rate file and want to just bin it right in the main window. I know I can create an action but I'm wondering if I'm just not seeing a simple keyboard shortcut somewhere?

Which leads me onto my next question which is about previewing a file. I know I can Open With... but I'm guessing there's no built-in preview to have a quick listen?

Thanks in advance
Martin

We're a little nervous about deleting files which is why there is no easy way to do it from the file list area. The best way is to write an action which does it and then to assign the action to a toolbar icon or to a keyboard shortcut. Even doing it via an action is kept somewhat difficult...intentionally. I'll post a few samples later today to show how to move files to the trash and/or delete them ... and then to remove the files from the file list.

As for listening ... select your file(s) and press the space bar (or Preview from the context menu). This only works for files where the OS has support built in. It will not work for APE, WV, DSF and DFF.

OMG, I had no idea the spacebar does that! Brilliant.

I do understand the nervousness around permanently deleting files but if it's OK for Finder, it should be OK for you? ;-). In the meantime, I'll await your sample actions. Thank you.

Download and import the file at:

https://2manyrobots.com/actions/TrashDelete.zip

This will give you two actions: Trash Selected Files and Delete Selected Files

I will generalize, combine and make them work as in the Finder for the next release of Yate. The Ask statement's functionality has been extended.

Thank you; I simply could ask for more. I look forward to a release coming to my MacBook one day soon 😀
