Another coding conundrum.

I'm wondering if I can use the disc numbers that are at the beginning of the album name & copy them into the disc number space before I go ahead & do the whole thing by hand?

I mean, I'm sure the answer is "of course you can", I just can't figure out how.

Okay ... no gobbledygook this time but it will take two steps.

Select the files.

Click on the function button to the left of the Disc field and select Multi Field Editor. This will preset the Disc field as the field being modified.

Then perform a Copy function followed by a Find & Remove function.

This is the manual way of doing things. Once you get into writing actions, far more complicated scenarios can be handled ... and retained for future use.

I'm attaching screenshots of the two steps.

I need to kind of reverse this process. The problem is that I need to insert the copied date into a text string at a certain point, rather than replace it.

So, copy the disc number & use it to replace "00" in the album title.

Download the action at:

https://2manyrobots.com/actions/Snowdog-Replace00inAlbumwithDisc.zip

You'll have an action named Snowdog: Replace 00 in Album with Disc

Run it via: Actions>User Defined>Snowdog: Replace 00 in Album with Disc

I assumed you wanted the disc number padded to 2 digits. If you did not want padding or you wanted it padded to 3 digits. Open the Action Manager. Open the action. Edit the Make Numeric statement on line 3 to select the desired padding.

Unstoppable!! Thank you so much!

I did indeed want it padded to two digits, but figured I'd not bother you with it as I could add that myself afterwards.

Where's the best place for me to pull these actions apart & learn what everything does?

I mean, it's a lot easier to keep asking you, but I'm pretty sure you'll get sick of it eventually! 😆

These are really one liners and only take a minute to write ... not much bother :). There's loads of built in help on actions. The best place to start is probably with the Yate and the P Word document which you can find on the resources web page (accessible on the Help menu).

I looked at the Yate And The P Word document.

I've now ordered an Aquavac to hoover up my melted brain.

I'll try again after I've had a lie down.

LOL. One of the problems with being able to do so much is that the complexity rises. There are lots of examples on the resource page and you can download all the snippets used in the document . Small steps first 🙂
