I feel like this should be so simple but I've been banging away at this for hours now & getting absolutely nowhere!

I should be able to look at other renaming templates & just change the bits but no matter what I try, nothing happens. At least not what I want to happen.

The subject says it all. Copy the containing folder name & use it as the album title.

How can it be this hard??

Rename Templates are for renaming for renaming :). Extracting components is done by File to Tag templates.

The screenshot is a FTT sample:

Ah, okay. What you have there looks exactly like what I had! 😆

I figured I was renaming, seeing as my aim is to rename the album title, using the holding folder as a source.

You cannot believe how much I appreciate your patience!

Okay, that went horribly wrong.

I created something that looked exactly like what you have above, did the preview thing (screenshot 1) & it looked like it was going to change all my folder names, but I ran it anyway (on the basis that I was probably wrong) & it's changed all my folder names.

The reason I wanted to use my folder names as the album titles is because they contained all of the work information so I wouldn't have to type it all out across 54 albums.

But now it's all gone & I can't undo. 😆

Kill me now! 😳

(Obviously, I can see exactly where I want wrong. Nought out of ten for observation. I'll know for next time.)

All things like folder and filenames are kept in per file properties. These elements can be accessed in actions by Get Property statements or from context menu escape sequences. They can also be accessed in the Multi Field Editor.

Rename template are for renaming file system path components. File to Tag templates are for extracting metadata from file system path components.

As you get more into it you will do more and more in actions because they can be retained.

It really is like a foreign language but I feel an enormous amount of satisfaction every time a penny drops.

It's a shame that one dropped just after I pushed the "go" button. 😆

Okay, I wanted to create an action to add a hyphen to the folder names, (as per the screen shot, wherein I've been able to add it to the album names in Yate but the Apple finder rename functionality is not advanced enough for me to do it to the folders).

So, I took the action you sent me:

Sample Folder Rename

And have attempted to build an action based on it that will do what I need:

Test

The thing is, I can't see a way to trial run it, so I was wondering if you could look at it & see if it will work, before I potentially mess up all my folder names.

Fingers crossed! 😕

Also, is that a stupid way of doing it because there's this "add hyphen to folder" command right here! 😆
