I saw Mark Knopfler in concert last night.  What an amazing show.  He had ten world class musicians with him, each of who seemed to play an extraordinary amount of instruments.   Of the sixteen songs played only two were from his latest album ‘Down the Road Wherever’.  The rest were spread over his career and featured some which are less commonly known.

Unlike other artists ‘who have been around a while’, Mr. Knopfler takes the time to engage with his audience. This always makes a concert more enjoyable.  I can’t think of too many other performers who have consistently grown over the years.  Growth means change. His latest music is not the same as he played in Dire Straits in the late ’70s … and that’s a good thing.  I’m not the same as I was in the late ’70s. While I can be nostalgic about the older stuff it is refreshing to hear something different on each new release.

All I can say is that we had a great time and it looked as if everyone on the stage was having a great time as well.  Truly it was live music at its best.
