Hot topicUnexpected result from previously working rename template

I have a couple of "rename templates" that I use from time to time.

One of them is not working & I'm not sure why. There have been a number of Yate updates since I made them & I'm wondering if this might have anything to do with it?

As I type this, I'm hoping it might refresh my memory as to what I'm doing wrong! 😀

Here's what I do...

I move all the albums out of the music library folder to a new folder. (It's better to edit music away from the library & re-add it once done.)

I rename all of the folders so that they are how I want them to be in the Finder (First screenshot.)

I want the albums to be named exactly the same in Roon & Plex, so...

I load the albums into Yate. (Second screenshot.)

I run the rename template & get the error message. (Third screenshot.)

I can only add three screenshots so I'll continue in another post.

Ordinarily, the rename works & I then run an action to remove the last thing in parentheses, which removes the file format.

Done!

But, it's giving me an error & I wondered if you could shed any light?

As you can see from the first two screenshots, we're looking at a section of these albums where I've already done this. But I've added a few new albums & I figured it was just as easy to run the rename thing over the whole lot.

I can't remember how to call up the rename template so that I can see how it's built. (It's all "tokens" or something. I can't really remember now.)

Anyway, this is what it's called (& it usually does exactly what it says on the tin!):

Okay, I found the rename template thingy.

It says this:

I still think I'm waiting for a penny to drop in my brain & I'll go "bugger, I know what I'm doing wrong!" 😀

LOL. So is it all good now?

Make sure that you're running Yate v8.2.3.1. Yate v8.2.3 had a pretty bad bug.

Just in case ... and I'm a little fuzzy today after a long lunch ... Your rename template has no folder specification after the (folder start)

Ha! No the penny hasn't dropped.

I am running the latest version.

It's always worked before & I've never knowingly changed it but I'll have a play.

Well the error message is that the rename template is invalid. You have an empty (Folder Start) token in the template ... it should be followed by a folder spec. Basically the template is attempting to rename a folder component to empty.

(Album)
(Folder Start)

will rename the filename to Album and then get messed up. What are you actually trying to rename and to what?

I want each album title in the album field to take what I've written as the folder name in the finder & use that.

As you can see in the first two screen shots, it's done it correctly for the first 5 albums (apart from the fact that I've then gone in & removed the file format in parentheses).

So the first album is "Fading Memories". I've named the folder how I wanted it to be in the finder (including the file format AIFF), run the rename template to change the Album field for each of the tracks in that album & then removed the "(AIFF)" using an action you wrote.

I haven't changed the rename template. In actual fact, I can't believe I ever managed to build any of the rename templates in the first place. But I was younger then & full of hope. 😆

As you can see from these screenshots, If I go to the bottom of this album list where the new albums are, I've renamed the folder names in the Finder with the album titles how I like them to be.
(First screenshot. The big clue is they start with release dates & end with the file format.)

But the albums in Yate (second screenshot) show them as they are currently tagged. Usually I would run this rename template & use the Finder's folder names for the Album field.
