*Note: The albums in the second screenshot do not have the same sort order as the first because they are currently listed alphabetically.

Sorry this is giving me a headache trying to differentiate file system folder names and fields within Albums.

So you have an album named Fading Memories.

I see the folder PLEX_WAITING_ROOM_00 which contains a bunch of folders including 2007-09, Fading Memories (AIFF)

... then I see a bunch of selected tracks where the Album field is 2007-09, Fading Memories.

Are you wanting to simply change the Album field to the containing folder's name without the (file type)?

If so what are you renaming here? If so copying the folder name to the Album field, removing a trailing ( ) sequence can be done in a single action without renaming anything. Rename templates are only used to rename components in the file system.

I've just read you last post as I was writing this. I still can't see what you're renaming. I think I understand what you want.

Is this correct:

For all tracks in

In the 2025-10, A Room Full Of Birds (44) (AIFF)

You want their Album field to be set to In the 2025-10, A Room Full Of Birds (44)

... or do you also want the (44) removed?

ps. I still can't see what is being renamed LOL

Can I simply read the folder name; strip off the last (...) sequence and copy it to the Album field?

Haha! Sorry for the brain ache.

Okay, yes you are correct.

I would like all the tracks in the folder "2025-10, A Room Full Of Birds (44) (AIFF)" to have their Album field to be set to "2025-10, A Room Full Of Birds (44)" and so on.

[Yes, the 44 stays as it is part of my title string. In this case, the 44th album in the series. There will often be a larger section in parentheses in my album title before the file format, to differentiate different versions of the same album (see screenshot)]

I was certain an action could be made to do this but I somehow managed to build these & other rename templates before I ever started to ask you about actions, that's how long ago it was, so I've never needed an action. I just don't know why this has suddenly stopped working.

But yes, an action asking Yate to use the folder name in the Finder as the Album title for all the tracks in an album would be magnificent. Removing the file format as part of the action would be a bonus, even though I already have an action to do that.

I would imagine so, yes. 🙂
