Very Hot topicRe: Extract Artist and Title from Title

It worked good but when I renamed them and saved the files, only 200 from 800 went to the folder......they appeared the way I wanted but only 25% of them. But I had a copy plus de ones in Itunes which I dragged into a folder. 10% weren't transformed (only have the track name in the folder) and lost 120 tracks on the way. Why is that and how can I fix it ??
I am going to have a rest. Been too long in front of my mac. Good Night and thank you again for your time and patience.

First of all there is no way that tracks were deleted. The rename templates I sent you do not change the folder, only the file name. Every Yate user does this operation. I'm assuming that you didn't get error messages telling you about duplicates. I assume that you're running the action from the File>Rename menu item. Were all of the 800 files selected?

You do not have to save files to rename them. You only have to save files if you've made changes. It's a good idea to save before you rename because the current values are used for the rename operation. If you forget to save after renaming, the metadata may not reflect what is in the filename.

The number of files in each folder that you performed the action on should not be changed! If the files were linked to iTunes, the number of files in iTunes should not have been changed.

I'm still not sure how you're operating. Are you dragging from iTunes to Yate? From the Finder to Yate? Are you in Playlist or Album mode.

If you dragged from iTunes to Yate it's possible that not all of the files were in the same folder to start with. If you can still see all the files in iTunes, drag them again and enable the Path column in Yate. You can sort on the Path column and see if more tha one folder is present.

If you want Yate to actually move the files to a specific folder it can do that as well. I'm sorry but I'm still not sure what you're trying to do. 🙁

BTW: If in iTunes Advanced preferences you have either of the 'Keep iTunes Media Folder organized' or 'Copy files to iTunes Media folder when adding to library' options enabled, iTunes will rename and move your files whenever it wishes. If you changed any of the album, artist or album artist tags, iTunes may have moved the files out from under you.

If this is the case the files are all still there somewhere in the iTunes folder. Drag them into Yate in order to locate them.

If you want complete control and you want to rename and/or move your tracks, those options must be disabled.

I work one folder at a time. The problem I had was because I drag the items from the folder I copied on my desktop and not the original one. Anyway, the problem is solved. But still, some of the track names where not changed. I will work on that this morning. Have a nice day.

One folder at a time is the way I work. I've uploaded a new sample template at:

http://2manyrobots.com/actions/Validated-Track _Pad2_Artist-Title-Year.zip

This is a validated variant of the ##.Artist-Title-Year template. It should serve as an example if you want to create others. It does the following:

1) If the Title field does not exist, the current filename is not modified
2) If the track number exists (is non 0), it is pre-pended to the title padded to two characters followed by a '.'
3) If the Artist field exists, it is appended followed by ' - '
4) the Title field is appended
5) If the Year field exists, ' - year' is appended

If the resultant filename is a duplicate (for example two tracks named Intro), (#) will be appended to the name in order to guarantee uniqueness.

I hope this helps.

Hello again and happy holidays. I hope that you are having a sweet time.
Everything has been working perfectly....thanks. But I need an action that renames the tags as: Track. Artist - Song
You sent me one without the Space in between Track And Artist and it doesn't look clean. I would really appreciate if you can do that for me.
Thank you very much. Paul

LOL, there are a bunch of templates I sent you...I'm not sure which one you're using.

If all you want to do is add a space it will be faster if you do it. Go to preferences-rename. Click on the template you want modified. Insert the space in the template field wherever you want it. Click on the 'pencil' icon to save the modifications (The icon to the right of [-]). That's it, you're done.

f you'd prefer for me to do it, can you please give me the name of the rename template you want me to modify. (Whatever you select from the rename menu). Also... where do you want the space in: 'Track.Artist - Song'? After the '.'?

I am using 3 different templates. 1 for my dj tracks, 1 for big collections, and 1 for album collections. And of course I will do it myself. tried, but didn't want to screw it all. I prefer 2 have advice from an expert. Thanx

No problem. Send me the template names and where you'd like the extra space. I can turn them around quick 🙂
