The Settings window provides access to Yate's settings. To test a setting you can have the Settings window and main window open at the same time.

You can drag and drop the settings sections so that they are organized however you wish. The context menu for the list of settings contains a single item which will resort the sections so that General is first and the others are sorted in increasing alphabetical order.

Before we delve into the individual settings which are available, let's take a few moments to describe the approach taken with settings in Yates. Settings may be exported and imported by individual items, by item type and in total. This was done so that the settings could be backed up and so that you could share individual components with others.

If you decide that you want to restore any built in items after resetting or after they were manually removed, do so via the Yate>Reset built in items menu. This menu gives complete control over each type of built in item.

Yate>Reset Settings will restore all of your user settings to their default values.

Settings are exported by type via the Yate>Export Settings... menu item. Basically, you name a file to receive the output and select which item types you want to export. You can select or clear all items via the table's context menu.

When everything is checked, you're exporting all of Yate's settings. You can remove whatever item types you don't want to export. The Settings element refers to all of Yate's settings not represented elsewhere in the list. This includes all individual settings, the open/close mode for the main window list of files, and the visibility and position of columns in the file list. A finer level of control, down to the individual item may be achieved in specific settings panes.

Importing works much the same. You import via the Yate>Import Settings... menu item. You select the file you want to import from and what item types you want to import. You can also import a Yate settings file by dragging it to the main window's file list area. What and how elements get imported in this case is determined by the Settings - File List - Dragged Settings file import settings - Configure option.

When importing, you also choose to overwrite or add imported items when a different item of the same name already exists.

You can view a summary of the contents of a settings file via the Yate>Examine Settings File Contents... menu item. The summary describes in any of the import/export types are contained in the file. For compound named items, a list of the items is included. You can also perform this function by dragging a Yate settings file to the main window's file list area while holding down the Shift key.
